Simplify Console Server Management with RS-232 Media Converters
Console servers play a critical role in managing and monitoring network devices in data centers. They provide secure remote access to console ports, allowing engineers to configure, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance tasks on their network equipment. Many data center engineers face the challenge of connecting legacy equipment that still relies on RS-232 serial interfaces.

The Console Server on the far right can provide management connectivity to up to 96 network devices. A dedicated workstation or laptop can be connected to the console server with a UTP cable and RJ-45 connectors.
Management data from devices in Equipment Rack 1 and 2 are sent over Serial cable to the RS232 Media Converters. The data is received and sent over fiber cable to another chassis of RS232 media converters at the end of the Row, or on a separate floor in the data center.
This reduces the number of IP address required for the console server, and provides easier mapping to the network devices.
This also creates a central management location for devices located in different racks, different rows, or different floors of a data center.
