IRVINE, CA – September 24, 2009 Omnitron Systems Technology, (www.omnitron-systems.com), a provider of fiber optic access and mobile backhaul solutions for next-generation Carrier Ethernet networks, today announced that their iConverter® Network Interface Devices (NIDs) have been certified compliant to the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) 21 conformance and certification test process. The test process was performed by Iometrix, Inc., a leading independent testing lab, on behalf of the MEF.

The MEF 21 certification program addresses Link Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) that defines fault detection and testing functions for individual network links. These functions include Link Event Notification, Variable Request & Response, Loopback Control and Organization Specific extensions for management and proprietary device provisioning.

Iometrix defines test cases for Link OAM based on the MEF 21 “Abstract Test Suite for User-to-Network Interface (UNI) Type 2 – Part 1: Link OAM”, and covers the Link OAM functions defined in MEF 20 “UNI Type 2 Implementation Agreement”. MEF 21 is the first Abstract Test Suite in a series planned to cover all of the major UNI Type 2 components defined in MEF 20, which includes automated processes for managing services and fault monitoring at the UNI level. The MEF defines the UNI as the demarcation point that separates the service provider and customer networks, and provides the physical port that delivers the Ethernet service(s).

“Compliance with MEF 21 certifies iConverter NIDs support the necessary Link OAM functions with automated fault monitoring to reduce service provider operator costs by eliminating costly truck rolls and on-site troubleshooting,” explained Steve Mood, Omnitron’s Chief Technical Officer. “As one of the first vendors in the industry to be MEF 21 certified, it attests to our ability to accurately interpret and implement Carrier Ethernet standards in our products.”

The iConverter platform has also been certified compliant with the MEF 9 Ethernet Virtual Connection attributes, and MEF 14 Bandwidth Profiles and Service Performance for formulation of SLAs.
